North Indian food is a rich mix of simple yet very elegant vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare. It’d be right to say that the cuisine can’t be imagined without butter, ghee, and nuts! The food is seasoned heavily with onion, ginger, garlic and spices like cardamom, cinnamon and cloves that give the food a “rich” color and flavor. The world over popularity of northern food arises due to the magic of these spices.

Thus, the most popular dishes in India come from North. Can you imagine India with no Butter Chicken, no dal makhni and no gol gappey? Ehhhh that’s a liitle scary!

Sarso ka Saag, Amritsari Kulche, Choley Bhature, Soya Tikka Chaap, Dum Aloo, Dal Makhni, Tanduri Chicken, Chaat, Paranthe are a few other delicacies that come from North India.

When we think of South India, usually a very subtle and coconutty flavor hits our mind. But, in true sense South Indian food is also famous for its spices and spicy food. Perhaps it’s the hottest of all the Indian foods. Woooaahhh, that is surprising. Idlis, Dosas, Vadas, Sambaar, Uttapams, Rasam, Payasam, Mysore Pak, are cherished by all.

South Indian Filter Coffee and Coconut Water need a special mention. Made from dark roasted coffee beans the aroma of coffee says it all. Coconut water extremely famous in South India has now been adopted in various parts of India for its nutritional benefits. The mouth watering dhokla and farsan, khakhra and Thepla, bhelpuri sevpuri and vada pav, all is a part of the west side of India.  West Indian Cuisine is usually light and salubrious as against the Cuisine of North India which weighs heavy on the stomach. It is also very popular amongst foreigners.

The people of no other region in India can rival the love for sweets and desserts that Eastern Indians have! Some of India’s most popular and world-renowned sweets come from here.

How can we forget to mention momos? They are the hot and spicy delicacies highly trending all over the country.

Other dishes that come from East India include Thukpa, Tomato Achaar, Machcher Jhol, Jhaal-Muri, Sandesh and Rasgolla.
